Although these are all important, I believe there are certain characteristics that set apart great sales people from good sales people. I looked back at the sales people that I have met, observed, been sold to....what set them apart?

Whether the person was junior or senior in experience, great sales people tend to have all or at least the majority of the characteristics, that I list below. I believe, that if a person doesn't have these, they will struggle in effective sales.

1) Perceptiveness
- The ability to identify something, that is important to the other person. This allows one to have conversations, start establishing trust, and building the relationship for a guide or a decision maker to lead to new opportunities.

2) Integrity no matter what
- there is always a way to do something the right way, without having to compromise one's morals.

3) Realistic Innovative thinker - both implementation and desire for.
- in tough times, whether economically driven or otherwise, it is important to be able to be
innovative and look at doing things differently while still being able to deliver it both physically and financially. - in good times, the desire to be innovative and still be at the top of their game, even though the pressure is off due to established results.

4) Great, not good, Great Communicator
- written, oral and most importantly audible. The ability to listen is key in ensuring that the response whether oral or written is meeting the needs of the client.

5) Rigour - stick-to-it-tiveness (is that a word??)
- sales is a high.....when it is good, but when it is tough....it is so imperative to keep believing in what you are doing, and keep doing it. If you aren't sure, ask for help.....but don't ever stop.

Look for these people when filling your G.A.P.
